SvenDriver
I have a standard Rover 1.8K series engine. Caterham manual suggests 0-40W for grandma drivers and 5-50W for Boy racers. What do people use? I assume that any high quality synthetic with the right viscosity will do though? And how many litres for an oil change on a wet sump? Jason Plato
Something like a 5w 40 Synthetic from Halfords , Comma SynerG , or a deal that DVA has , would do nicely . All around £15 - 21 for 5l dave
Steve-B
i've been using very happily castrol magnatec synthetic 10w-40 and having very good coverage, and mileage with it. this was first put in a 800 miles on our engine, and we're at 5400 now. i change it every 2-2.5K miles. it seems a very good oil for temperatures, etc as well.. Alias
Sven, I'm with Dave on this one. Go for the 5w40 (I had 15w50 previously, and I'm not sure it was ideal for my engine although it's probably ideal if your 1.8 pushes out over 220Bhp). A 5l carton should do the trick unless you have an anti-cavitation system (aka apollo tank). One car - 1400 Supersport with 6 gears and clamshell wings.
