Area Representative Paul Richards Posted September 30, 2014 Area Representative Share Posted September 30, 2014 They are standard on CSR of course. There was a kit produced by Freestyle, for the S3 and SV but it is no longer available. Is there another option you are thinking of?
Mike Biddle
The hardware like wishbones etc may still be obtainable from Arch, since they fabricated them for Gary. I have in the past got a replacement front wishbone from them. After that its just a matter of springs, platforms and shocks.Made a huge difference for the better on my car, everything improved.I'd post some pictures but they are on my laptop hard drive and system requires a URL. Can e-mail some if I have your mail address, which I think I do somewhere........ Nope, only blat mail from when we met in Dubai.
Culminator
Freestyle were the first to offer in board mounted dampers. They used a bolt on frame, centrally located where the expansion tank would be and this held the upper ends of the damper units. The wishbones are eaxtra wide and are connected to the lower part of the dampers via push rods and a fulcrum on each side. The whole design is retofitable as it is a simpkle bolt on affair. All components were made by Arch and are still available. The only exception was the billet fulcrums and these wee made by Quaiffe. Gary used AVO dampers and I believe Nitrons or Bilsteins simply wont fit in the fairly tight confines of the mounting frame. It's a good system and takes away a lot of the effects of hitting a bump mid corner. The car seems well planted and rock solid at high speed.Drop me a line if you need to know more as I have one of the 6 or so Freestyle cars built and did a lot of research when I bought it. 7 wonders of the world
Gary's standard inboard set up was the same width a widetrack car he then offered superwide which also widened the rear using the SV DD tube, AVO's were the default damper but Nitrons were a cost upgrade,
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted October 2, 2014 Area Representative Share Posted October 2, 2014 Interesting to know that Quaife supplied the fulcrums. Arch do indeed have the jigs to manufacture the wishbones, supports, pushrods etc. Bruce supplied some small replacement parts for me last year. CageyH
I have a Freestyle inboard kit, and it transformed the handling of the car on bumpy surfaces.
Culminator
What poundage front springs do you have Cagey, Mike?
Mike Biddle
Don't know offhand, and can't look at any records due to leaving my laptop in security at JFK last Saturday. Will take a look when I get the new one next week, but even then, may not have the information, Gary used to keep this information a little close to his chest.
