Water Temp

Have just reconnected the heater (previous owner disconnected whilst in sunnier climbs) and the water temp now rises to around 95-100 whilst stuck in traffic. It used to stay around 85 degrees.

Car has a plastic bleed valve and Ali rad, what is the correct way to bleed any air lock

You have an air lock in the heater. Is bleed valve in a heater hose ? Raise the bleed valve to the highest point with heater valve turned on. Trickle coolant into opened bleed valve until system full. Run engine. Allow to cool. Release expansion bottle cap to release pressure and check no air at bleed valve.

That will be the Australian model. Can you see an easy way of relocating the t-piece?

Have followed post and now expansion bottle full to top, but only a little water went in?

Not jacked up rear. Could I have connected hoses to the heater wrong way round and would that make a difference

The basic idea is to get the bleed point higher than that of any other bit of the circuit. Can you do that with the current location of the t-piece and the car on its wheels?

I could disconnect small section of hose and fit to top heater hose. Currently water rail that runs from rad along passenger side goes to top heater hose and bottom heater hose returns down drivers side of engine. Is this correct

A big thank you to everyone. I now have a heater that works, engine temp just over 80 and the fan comes on at just over 80 rather than 100. Now a quick blat before bedtime- to check out any issues of course (just in case swimbo is reading post)

Sounds as if you've fixed it. But keep an eye on the temperature and check the expansion tank after the first few runs.

It should be just up to the half way point marked around the bottle, not the top. As its name suggests, the expansion it there to provide space for the coolant to expand into when it gets hot. You will probably find that the pressure relief valve in the bottle lid will open and allow some coolant to blow out on your next few runs until it settles back to the correct level, so if you find that it appears to be leaking a bit at first and the level is going down, don't worry so long as it doesn't fall much below the correct level.
