fatcat
I'm looking to do a few races this year and I was wondering what size/type of wheels to go for - car is an SV with 200bhp engine which may get upgraded a little, tyres will be slicks or CR500/Yok021 for the wet....what's best for handling, weight, availability of tyres, cost ? thanks in advance fc
Gridgway
if you are running slicks in the dry, surely proper Avon race wets would be better for wet use? What do the regs of the races you are competing in allow? Graham
Trevor Phillips
George Polley will cut a slick into his wet design for about £16 extra on the price of the new tyre. My wets he did last season were magic. Racing pics and items for sale here
fatcat
I'm guessing a bit on tyres as the regs aren't published yet... Trevor, thanks the info on Polley's, sounds ideal... Original thought on CR500 or Yok021 was to have something road legal for the car which could also be used on the track but that may be over-optimistic - looks like three sets of wheels will be the minimum requirement. Which brings me back to the question on wheels as the cost is starting to mount up - are the r500 style light alloys worth the money or are cheaper steel jobs good enough, is 13" the best size ? Fast Westie
Fatcat Look our for secondhand ones. If you are running SLR slicks you will need 7x13 for the front and 8.5 (or 9) x13 for the rear. Wets can be fitted to 6 or 7x13s. The car in front is a Westfie1d
