And Im doing very well
I am trying to find out what diff I have. No obvious markings except for Ford and a couple of almost unreadable numbers on the rear of the diff. When I jack the car up in neutral and turn one wheel the other moves in the same direction, but if I then stop the wheel that is moving independently and move the other wheel again they do not both move together. Reason I am asking is that I have just drained the diff oil and am wondering if I should add the LSD additive to the oil and would this hurt the diff if it is not LSD? Member Jonathan Kay Posted July 22, 2014 Member Share Posted July 22, 2014 Lots on this in the archives. The test you have done works for most LSDs but not quite all. If you take out the halfshafts you can be sure. Apparently the way it breaks adhesion in a straight line is an infallible test. Please tell us about the car, its age and history: this will give some clues. Jonathan

Richard K
John I think that if you left only one side and can rotate the rear wheel = No LSD Richard
David Lynch
Angus's Site Moved on a bit since then with the BMW etc. but I'd expect if yours is a Slippy it'd be a ZF.
