Numpty Question - Gauges at Odd Angles

I have noticed that many of you, particularly those who like to track your cars, rotate your tachometer and speedometer to odd angles. Why is this? Is it purely a matter of putting important references such as the rev limit at the top?

Not always to the top but to put the important part of the range in a place that can be clearly seen..

Just replaced my tachometer for one where 0 is at four o'clock and the fist 3k are on a compressed scale. Now I can see all the important bits and have it straight *smile*
