Numpty Question - Gauges at Odd Angles

I have noticed that many of you, particularly those who like to track your cars, rotate your tachometer and speedometer to odd angles. Why is this? Is it purely a matter of putting important references such as the rev limit at the top?

Not always to the top but to put the important part of the range in a place that can be clearly seen..

 

Just replaced my tachometer for one where 0 is at four o'clock and the fist 3k are on a compressed scale. Now I can see all the important bits and have it straight

1 Rev counter needle vertical, as you say

2 Other interesting bits visible through the steering wheel that's too small to let you see the whole face

As already said twisted the rev counter around as top end of the useable range hidden by the steering wheel 260mm Momo. Not bothered about the speedo 😬
