Alternator belt help

Big Bad Baz

Recommended Posts

I have been trying to change the alternator belt today. Managed to get enough slack to remove the old one, but I can't seem to get enough "give" to get the new one on properly.

I've undone the two bolts at the top of the alternator, which I believe allow it to swivel:

And I've undone A and B here which is what gave me the slack to get the old one off:

I somehow managed to get the new belt on, but it's not sitting properly on the alternator pulley and I can't replicate whatever I did before to loosen it enough to move the new belt:

Where the hell am I going wrong?

Quoting Jonathan Kay:
Same problem as here? Have you got the adjuster bracket swivelling easily?

The only way I was able to make the alternator move at all was to use a large screwdriver to lever bolt "B" away from the side, but it didn't move very much.

Quoting SM25T:
If you don't undo the bolt nearest the engine on the bottom stay, it won't move far enough.

Do you mean the bolt at the other end of the "slider" from "B"?

You are one tooth on the belt out

All you need to do is get a socket on the front pulley and something to push the alternator belt toward the engine whilst turning the pulley. The belt will then slip over the last notch. Then tighten up. Dont over tension the belt. It should not "twang" when flipped!

Simples!

With ignition OFF 😳

Good idea *wink*

Thanks all.
