Cookie Monster
My car has never had a cat fitted & always passed it's MOT with even a mention. Am I going to have an issue passing scrutineering at Blyton?
Matthew Willoughby
That depends how old the car is. If it was manufactured after 31st December 1999 it needs to have a catalytic converter to meet MSA regs.
Cookie Monster
It's a 2003 - is it going to be a problem then do you think based on your experience? Simon.Rogers1
Phil - short and long answer is yes it needs to have a cat to comply with our regs. All of us had to do the same backwards step when the rule was introduced a few years back. There are some silencers to be had that have the CAT built into the can. I have one with an FIA high flow cat which in no way hurts performance as proven on the Dyno. Won't pass a road not though!
Cookie Monster
Thx all Any idea of who produces cat in can silencers pls?
Titanium7
Powerspeed do them.
garybee
What engine do you have? I have a spare silencer with cat that I can bring to Blyton for you to borrow. You would need to have a k-series with short manifold for it to fit though. Edited by - garybee on 18 Apr 2014 17:35:
johnpbransfield
Phil, I had to go through this last year to enter the SC. Mine is a Powerspeed 4/2/1. Cost to put a CAT in and repack and return to me was £358.00 incl vat. Very neat job and turned around with in the week. Bit of a bugger cost wise having to have to have it done
CaterBram
Don't forget it's not a speed championship requirement, it's an MSA requirement so effectivley everyone competing with a road going car built after 31/12/99 must comply 5.16.7. Exhaust catalytic converters must be fitted to all petrol engined production based saloon, touring and sports cars, including specialist production and kit cars, manufactured after 31/12/99. They may be specified for certain other formulae. Competitors are reminded of their obligation to maintain such equipment on a vehicle used on the highway where government legislation requires it. Area Representative Richard Price Posted April 18, 2014 Area Representative Share Posted April 18, 2014 Phil, I use a standard silencer with a built in cat from a standard short manifold and the single pipe out of the side skin. I'm actually on my second. The first I used with a Caterham long (competition)four branch manifold, and the one I'm currently using is with an SLR 4-2-1 manifold. With both manifolds the silencer inlet and outlet need to be modified, but power does not appear to be compromised at all. What manifold do you currently have? Cookie Monster
Thanks for the responses It's a k series 1.8 with a 4-1 manifold into a repackable can(not sure what make as there are no clues to the brand). I am aware it should have one already but never had one when purchased. Just need to weigh up if its worth getting a used cat or go with a cat in the can which would be my preference at this stage
Area Representative Richard Price Posted April 18, 2014 Area Representative Share Posted April 18, 2014 Phil. You have blatmail. can you email a photo of the manifold? I may be able to identify it.
