Gary-Cornwall
Sorry if this has been done to death in the past but I've tralled the archives and can't find the answer. Can anyone tell me the weight of the XE and also the Vaux 8v which I am replacing?
Lagartija
XE is 45 kg heavier than a K Series . Take a look here. Don't think its got weights for the 8-valve though.
Anthony
Hi, if you look at Arnie's figures albeit without engine mount/alternator, the difference is not quite as great, ie 10KG ! add Alternator and engine mounts back say 20KG Regards Anthony VX the real way sideways
EFA
There was quite a lot missing from my parts of my specific engine...... The crank. clutch and flywheel offer a 19kg saving over std spec items... Arnie Webb The Fat Bloke 😳 in a not so Slow Vauxhall
Chelspeed
The 8V and 16V share the same block. Crank, flywheel, sump etc will be similar weight. The only difference is in the head, both are alloy so I'd be surprised if they're much different in weight.

Gary-Cornwall
Thanks to all contributors. Chelspeed - Actually needed a different (heavier) flywheel as XE has 8 bolt fitting and the old 8v flywheel had 6. John, yeah, diet it is! Judging by my show in the Fun Run it's not a bad idea. I'm sure the extra 60 horses will compensate for the weight though 😬 We've got the exhaust manifold in place now with the hole reshaped.....looks good. Now up against a snag setting up the throttle springs which are snagging the frame - need to consider changing things around and possibly work it from above rather than below. Hope to see you over Xmas.
Paul Ranson
My Swindon Vauxhall with starter, clutch, inlet manifold/bodies/filter, exhaust manifold, sump, oil pumps, in fact ready to go less alternator, is 108kg. And it still had the oil in, so there's a couple of kilos there. The main difference with Arnie's will be the cam cover and the sump. Paul
