new battery options

Battery seems to have died after 4 years. Always in the optimate but recently it wasn't on it for a day or so and had no power.

Is the Banner the best option or are there any others that are better/cheaper/lighter etc?

Tanya the best place to get one? Looks like the Banner is about £68 delivered.

There's lots on this in the archives but inevitably very few like-for-like comparisons.

 

Mine lives on a conditioning charger and I'm very pleased with the Powervamp PVR 25.

 

The Powervamp Clubsport 22 is cheaper.

If you want smaller and lighter then:

 

Varley Redtop (20 or 25)

Odyssey (20 or 25)

RMD 25

 

They are in descending order of price. I have had both the Varley and Odyssey in the past on a xflow car and both worked well. The Varley didn't like being left on the optimate and eventually leeked (circa 5 years). Last week I bought an RMD for by XE, as it was cheaper and lighter. Seems OK, but only time will tell.

Too much driving in Wales, probably.

 

The ultimate in lightweight batteries are lithium ones, which are starting to get vaguely affordable but you need to be sure you're not going to accidently drain one, as it'll probably kill it.
