RS2000
I have checked out the archive and read that there is a way of changing the gaiters without having to split the track rod end from the hub steering arm, unfortunately I can't quite work out how that works is an annotated picture of the set up - you can see here I have loosed off one turn the locknut (A), but I'm not sure which bits are meant to come out of what (D) indicates a flat which is hidden underneath the current (split) gaiter... Anyone explain using my annotations what I need to do please? Thanks
Jonathan Kay
Did you find Stu's method? Jonathan
Guest
Unscrew the track rod from the extension B using a spanner on flat D. Remove and replace gaiter and refit. Don't forget to mark/count threads so you get tracking back as it was.

Area Representative manningpaul Posted March 23, 2014 Area Representative Share Posted March 23, 2014 Hi Chris, Strangely enough just did a quick check before MOT this week and found that I also have a split gaiter, looks like an easier job than I thought, thanks!! Are you up for the Fish and Chip run again? Regards Paul.

RS2000
Paul - which side has gone on yours, or is it both?
Area Representative manningpaul Posted March 23, 2014 Area Representative Share Posted March 23, 2014 It is the nearside one, raided my spares collection and found three offside ones so obviously have always had the nearside one fail on previous cars!! Jonathan Kay
I only needed one from the pair I bought: could we create a secondary market? Reminds me of the story about exporting gloves to the USA... Jonathan
RS2000
Hmmm nearside for me too.... Might be ok for the 13th April - you got a group going?

RS2000
Managed to change one side before ran out of light. Thought I'd be clever and gaffer tape the lock nut in place having loosened it off exactly one turn... Doh stupid boy... however I counted everything and even photo'd it to make sure I could get it all back in the right place I'll do the other side tomorrow, not split but showing signs of cracking around the tie wrap...
