N Blandin
Mornin' My wife runs a rather nice Chesil Speedster with an 1800 air cooled anchor in the back. It's a proper job apparently, built by a guy called Arnie Levics and runs twin Dell'ortos. But, if has a big old flat spot from about 1800revs that does her head in. I can't be arsed to chase it up and down the rev range for ever, so is there a fuel injection system for classic Beetles? I've tried Googling but don't get very far. Does anyone know any sensible Beetle specialists I could try?
Markiebabes
Nice car The chesil 🥰 It might be the distributor ? Might be worth joining an Aircooled forum asking the question on there ? Good luck
Mick Day
Why not have a chat with this guy who can supply EFI kits. John Maher John is a very nice guy (he built an engine/gearbox for me some 10 years ago) & can supply a complete kit (DTA based) with good-to-start mapping included. Incidentally he is the former drummer with the Buzzcocks! here Edited by - Mick Day on 18 Mar 2014 10:26:
myothercarsa2cv
I don't know if you can get the parts here but there is a reasonably large market in the USA for billet blocks, steel everything, turbos and what not for VW flat fours. Like this guy, or these guys.

myothercarsa2cv
This is the article I first saw the crazy bugs in... here - Completely mad 😬
AMMO
Nigel, we have a guy in Colchester who is a genius with Dellortos and Webers. I doubt he wouldn't be able to fix the problem at a fraction of the price of fitting EFI. The only problem would be getting the car over here. N Blandin
Thanks Ammo, I know that the carbs can be made to run well enough, but my wife just wants to jump in fire up and go out. To her a car should run perfectly, that's what technology is for. 😬 Apart from the lumpiness, I've got the car pretty sorted now.
CageyH
What distributor is the car running? Does it have a vacuum advance still? Is it still using contact breaker points?
seventh-heaven
Lloyds Specialist Developments have fitted Canems kit to Beetles including this one - here. I have previously read a full article about this fitting of this Beetle but I can't currently find it. I came across them when searching out a system for my V8 MGB. Mick Day
Just a thought but have you fitted an electric fuel pump? Mech. pump ok for daily drivers but if only used occasionally then it takes a lot of starter use to get fuel into the float chambers for the engine to run. N Blandin
Leccy pump and electronic ignition. I'll have a look at the idle jets I think. Edited by - nigel blandin on 23 Mar 2014 07:29:
