I'm booked in the intro to sprinting course, but rather than leave it to the last minute I want to get myself kitted out, I have a 15 year old full face helmet and a pair of kart shoes (non fireproof) so I'm guessing all I need is fireproof overalls and gloves, can they be Proban or do they have to be Nomex.

Hi Elwood,

If you're intending to compete, then you'll need gear that complies with MSA regulations.

Each year the MSA (the governing body of motor sport in the UK) issues a yearbook (known as the "blue book") that contains all of the regulations for that year.

The safety section of this years book (see here )

states for overalls:-

9.1.2. Special Stage Rallies, Sprints and Hill Climbs:

FIA 8856-2000

FIA 1986 Standard

Helmets have to comply with the following standards:-

(a) INTERNATIONAL EVENTS & ALL MSA EVENTS.

FIA 8860-2004.

FIA 8860-2010.

SNELL SA2010.

SNELL SA2005.

SNELL SA2000*.

SNELL SA2010.

SNELL SAH2010.

SFI Foundation 31.1A, 31.2A.

BS 6658 Type A/FR**.

*May be withdrawn with effect from 01/01/15.

**May be withdrawn with effect from 01/01/16.

You'll also need fire retardant gloves.

Boots are free, so your kart boots will be fine.

Elwood -what type of roll bar do you have?

I have a petty strut which you can have (for a donation to NTL) if it will fit. I used it on my 1998 car (single diagonal FIA roll bar)

I am helping out at the Intro to Sprinting day, so could bring it along with me.
