Torque'ing Propshaft to Diff?

Big screwdriver into UJ to stop it turning. Hex bit with long extension to get torque wrench away from propshaft.

☹️ why on earth I didn't think about the screwdriver in the UJ I don't know - worked a treat.

Thanks.

Are you connecting the prop shaft before you put the engine & gearbox in? 😳

Yes built the front suspension, then worked on the tunnel, now rear end. Engine and box to go in last.

Placing a long screwdriver into the UJ from above locked the prop shaft and made it dead easy to torque up.

As long as the car isn't on its wheels then there shouldn't be a problem twisting the propshaft to get it aligned. I've pulled my engine out and refitted it quite a few times and never disconnected the prop from the diff.

Hmm.. I've always fitted gearbox and engine seperately, prehaps that's why I've always found it easy *smile*

Tell me more.

What else would you like to know about? *tongue* (Edited to add - We could discuss the fixing bolts for the off side engine mount on your Cooper S, now that is a challenge!)
