metal mickey
I understand that the 13" wheel is the preference, why? I currently have 15" prisoners on mine with so2 tyres. What would the benefit be in swapping to 13"? Surely the smaller wheel restricts potential caliper/disc sizes and also the deeper tyre side wall will affect spring rate etc. Has anyone got any experience of cr500 on 15" rims? Thanks, Mike
AMMO
Lower C of G. Less unsprung weight. AMMO
Chelspeed
The Caterham is light enough that you can fit big enough brakes in a 13" wheel. So that particular reason for big wheels doesn't apply in this case.
Alex Wong1697456877
CR500's on 15" rims - fantastic. Used them at Cadwell this year and they were absolutely brilliant. So much better than the original compound 13" CR500's I had. Recommended.
metal mickey
Thx for the replys. Still don't understand the tyre profile thing though - or is the greater tyre choice in 13" the reason for their preference? Mike.
DohNut
Bigger choice and cheaper for 13 inch wheels Also for people with 5 speed boxes it lowers the gearing slightly - that is it lowers the gearing for everyone but it is more of an issue with 5 speed boxes. SteveP
Isn't the higher profile meant to give you more progressive predictable handling at the limit? Dunno, but when I switched from 195/50 15s to 185/60 13s the ride was more forgiving and 'just felt better' - an emotive statement, I know SteveP
eric
I have just bought a set of 13" minator and 032 from Caterham . before I had a set of 15" withh 195/50 15 A539 Yoko from my point of view : for touring and fast road 15" is better (with A539), and when it rains lot of safety. To go to a track days or 20 miles very quick 13" is better. But the difference is not for me hudge, except for the stone chips on the rear wing (032 must contain some glue) I am happy to have them but really not so good that I was thinking
metal mickey
Thx again. one last question, are 13" CR500's better than 15" ones ? Mike.
scooby dooby doo
The compound has changed, that'll be making more difference than a 15"/13" difference. Another major reason for changing from the standard fit 15" wheels is that they weren't very light. Caterham now do much lighter 15" wheels which will mean the difference is less marked.
