Pendennis
Hi Gilles, this does make me chuckle as you know. I think I said to you 175mm which is exact for my input on their bell housing. I can confirm clutch plate was spot on in middle of spline and shaft all the way into spigot bearing. I would insist on this with them as although the spline should be fine the spigot bearing should have shaft all the way into and across roller bearings. As you know I am amazed Sadev do not know the lengths of the type 9 😬
James.S
Quoting Peter De La Mare: Quoting James.S: CC did me a great deal on mine, without any messing around. The lever or the whole box? I tried to buy a Sadev from CC but they refused to sell me one as they weren't for sale yet. The whole box. Maybe it was one of the ones destined for the R600's.Was earlier this summer. catastrada
OK things are moving on. I had a 1st hand confirmation that the input shaft lenght for the Caterham bellhousing (191,5 mm) is 191mm indeed. Measurement was done on a Sadev Gearbox as specified and fitted by Caterham Cars. It means that 171mm for the short Raceline bellhousing (172mm) is correct too.
Pendennis
Nonsense, I've just measured it again for you. It is 176mm Heads up again Gilles, If it is too short it 'could' exhilarate wear on spline, clutch plate and spigot bearing. Why can't Sadev look at the Ford type 9 dims? catastrada
Thanks Pendennis I did some searches and: 1. The spigot bearing depth (lots of english words learned those past days...) seems to be 16mm. 2. With a 171mm length, the input shaft seems to be engageed by 19mm in this bearing, which means there's an even little extra depth beyond. (I wonder if the 176/196mm are not historical Ford lenghs, before the Duratec developement?) Edited by - Catastrada on 6 Dec 2013 13:11:
elie boone
If the axe covers 3/4 of the bearing that would be fine as long as there is enough grease to keep things rolling.
Pendennis
Only trying to help I have seen the resulting wear on the shaft splines caused by a too short input shaft, also know of spigot bearings collapsing, why we'll who knows why?
