ChrisC
Hi All I am looking to borrow a valve spring removal tool that can be used to remove valve springs without removing the head. I understand it uses compressed air into the cylinder to hold the valves closed. I have an airline, I just want to borrow the spring compressor. So do you know a hire shop? Have you got one, that I can borrow (for a donation to NTL)? PS. Its for my Sigma
ChrisC
Or a source of a reasonable priced tool 😬
ECR
Coincidentally, I'm just using (for the first time) one I made. It's VX specific at the moment and it's in France also so not much use to you .... I'm using it with the head off the car and mounted on a stand. It's much nicer to use than a conventional valve spring compressor. Getting the split collets back in is still a bit of a faff though ..... Good luck with your search
ChrisC
I think I have found a draper kit for £50, so we are well in the price range of "not being worth taking the head off" But still hoping to find someone with this sort of tool I can borrow. simonpa
In the 'olden days' you could poke a lot of sash cord into the cylinder and then turn the crank and force the cord against the valves. Does the same thing without needing the compressor and spark plug insert.
ECR
Slightly off topic (but it'll pull the post back to the top 😬), has anyone used the automatic collet insertion tool ?
