Guest
Like many of you I guess, I have a Momo steering wheel mounted onto a Lifeline quick release steering boss, but it has developed some 'play' in it. Is it likely to be the boss itself that has worn or the steering column/shaft? Thanks.
elie boone
If i am correct the Lifeline has a O ring at the end of the splines, did you replace the O ring ? this can reduce the feel that there is some play in the steering wheel.
Guest
Can't even see an o'ring so that might be the problem. Thanks.
simonpa
I can't remember ever seeing an o-ring on a Lifeline QR? There are a couple of posts about using a punch to flatten the splines a but - presumably on the column - not tried it myself. I think the inner on the boss is ally, so wears quite quickly. charlie_pank
Every time I've suspected play there, it has actually turned out to be play in the steering column joint above the pedal box - try re-tightening the clamp bolts there... CharlesElliott
You can check the other items, but the Lifeline splines do develop play over time.
Guy Lowe
No '0' ring on the Lifeline boss AFAIK. Wear/play, yep TADTS Guy

Take out the large grub screw, and grind the point off, until you have a flat surface. It'll never come loose again. Oz
elie boone
I always knew that there was a rubber O ring sitting against the upright, this takes away the axial play if any see picture here
Stationary M25 Traveller
Ditched my splined setup for the Rapfix QR system that doesn't involve splines Buy it welded to a new upper column.

Guest
Thanks Gents - I have checked everything is tight and slipped a thin rubber o'ring over the splined shaft and the play has gone now.

6speedmanual
I have the common Lifeline boss with it's TADTS free play. Whilst it is very obvious when stationary and fidgeting the wheel, there is no time I have ever neen aesre of it whilst driving. So there it sits doing what it does. Roger Ford
Quoting old gimmer: Who does the best deal on a Rapfix including upper column vat & p/p Thanks for any opinions. You don't get much choice. I think Plays-kool Motorsport are the only importers, and you can get them direct from them, or you can order through Carl at Seven Speed. Either way you're unlikely to get a discount, and they're currently out of stock anyway. see here. £236 + post including the modified top-column.
