revilla
They look a lot more professional than the pre-insulated red/blue/yellow jobs. With the right tool, are they easy to do? Any recommendations?
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted August 29, 2013 Leadership Team Share Posted August 29, 2013 A little bit of practice needed and they're really easy. I rewired the whole engine bay, ecu connection etc with connectors as close as possible to o/e and got rid of all the (imho) naff pre-insulated connectors. I bought the connectors from Polevolt, I think the tool came from CBS. Stu.
Bob L
Sounds good, can anyone provide a link to the connectors and possibly the tool?
Drumster
This is the 'F' crimping tool I bought from CBS. Works well for me. Uninsulated terminals from Polevolt Edited by - Aeroscreens on 30 Aug 2013 09:33:

revilla
Weeeeeeheeeee... The boy's crimping like a dude! Thanks for the recommendations guys. Now I know why people say that crimping is better than soldering when all my crimps were carp! I shall now amuse myself in an evening by taking out all the cowboy red yellow and blue crimps and replacing them with pucker jobs!
Jonathan Kay
Is this about aesthetics or better connections or both? Thanks Jonathan
revilla
Jonathan - both! They certainly look better, but despite using a proper ratchet crimp tool on the pre-insulated crimps, half of them I could just pull free.

Paul Deslandes
A lot of government contracts specify crimped rather than soldered cable joints as the latter can fatigue and fail with time/vibration/temperature changes. You do need the proper tools though for a reliable joint, and they ain't cheap.
