Aeroscreen and eyes - glasses wearer

Re Eugenes post - I'm sure Massa had done a fair few miles before his incident
I have more chance being hit crossing the road than having a problem with debris when driving Aero...

I still cross the road.

I guess it just depends on your level of acceptable 'danger'.

We all know smoking kills, but a lot still smoke.

I just love the 'feeling' of aero without a bash hat, and nothing will change that enjoyment for me!

*cool*

A question for those who go aero and favour the helmet over goggles.

Sticking to road driving, which has covered most of the discussion so far.

What do you do for passengers?

- Don't take passengers.

- Only take one who brings their own helmet. (so no improvisation)

- Carry a spare helmet - although it won't fit everyone and some people will not want to share.

- other arrangements?

All of the above in my case.

This is only borderline a tech talk article, so apologies if you think I have posted in the wrong section...

I have just acquired an aeroscreen. I have a full face helmet and am debating the "look like a tool in the town centre vs. better safe than sorry, we could all have a Massa incident" scenario.

If I wasn't wearing my helmet I need some serious eye protection. But I am shortsighted and need my glasses on. Which makes finding the right eyewear more challenging. I need great protection without a 'bridge' in the goggles so that I can wear my glasses (preferably without it looking like a ski mask!).

And thats not the only concern I have. When blatting with my windscreen I tend to wear a beany hat. Again, my health and safety 'chip' has kicked in and I am thinking that is not going to protect me from 100 mph flying sharp gravel.

I am trying to avoid having to wear my helmet, yet feeling safe on a blat.

Please can you help me, first priority eyewear?

Thanks

Marcus

Look at some of the prescription safety glasses which are used for squash or mountain biking etc. I have some Addidas ones. They are wrap around.

You can even change the tinted lenses (with the rear lens being the prescription one) depending on weather conditions.

I have a d3o beanie and some Dixons ballistic prescription lenses (photochromic so I can wear under all circumstances). I do also have a full face for rain and very cold conditions and sometimes for longer runs.

I also use soundears for hearing protection.

Take a look at this

GoPro lens cover

The lens cover on a GoPro3 is made of VERY thick glass, but it still lost to a small piece of gravel (about 5x5x5mm) while driving on a highway in Nagoya.

I actually saw the thing coming, ducked right, heard an almighty crack as the stone hit the camera behind my left ear, then felt the little blighter bounce in to my lap.

I was wearing a full face helmet at the time - as I always do on any trip further than the corner shop when going aero.
