Master Thatcher
Bought car recently (Roadsport 1800 K series) and not sure what type of oil to top up with, can't find out what is already in it Advice please
jingars
This thread will give you an idea as to the differing views on what oil should be used in our cars. For what it is worth, when I bought my 1.8K it was using Comma 5W/50 (also badged and sold as Halfords own) and so I have continued to use that. If you want more conflicting advice early in your ownership experience, have a search on here for "K foam sump baffle"...
Jonathan Kay
There's a vast amount of discussion in the archives: that will leave you even more unsure than you were when you asked. Do you know when the oil, oil filter and sump foam were last changed? For road and trackday use I'd use a fully synthetic 5W-50. Here's the link on the Caterham page. Someone will soon* point out that you can buy the equivalent a bit cheaper somewhere else. Roger Ford
Don't worry about topping it up with something different from what's in it. In a perfect world you'd use the same, but it's really not going to cause any harm.

myothercarsa2cv
But if it's been a few thousand miles, change it There's a Comma 5W50 on Amazon for £19 delivered, bargain. (The 2CV gets topped up with whatever I can find 😬 Cooking oil, truffle oil, snake oil... ) Edited by - myothercarsa2cv on 20 Aug 2013 10:20:
Jonathan Kay
... and I'd always assumed the truffle oil was kept next to the eggs that were unbroken after you'd driven transversely across a ploughed field with them in a basket on the back seat. With your hat on. Except for those that were eaten at the picnic which you'd enjoyed while sitting in the field in the removable seats. :-) Jonathan
