Bellissimmo
I've just had my MOT test done and the tester has given me an advisory on the rear suspension. He was seeing play on the nearside rear front link arm front bush errr, let me try again... The bit tagged "1" in this picture... So, can anyone advise if this has a replaceable bush (part no. please) or if I need to replace the whole link? Thanks in advance Bellissimmo
simonpa
Yep - part from Redline is E2030 - bush-radius arm (small). Just under £6 ea., plus P&P for each bush. However, I had what I thought was this on my car (with Watts link) and so I bought a pair of bushes. When I started stripping it down, I found the play was actually in the Watts-link 'rocker' mech. as the rose-joint 'eyes' had about 1mm of play in each joint. This allowed the whole dedion to move forward-back a couple of mm - quite disconcerting. When I disassembled it all, it turns out one of the previous owners or support mechanics had used normal 1/4" bolts, instead of the proper ones with long shoulders. The threaded sections had collapsed, giving rise to the play. It's also left the eyes oval, so I am now replacing them as well - a £60 job instead of a fivers-worth of bolts.. Let me know if you need details of anything. Cheers - Simon
Bellissimmo
Thanks Simon. I do hope mine wasn't the fault of the builders - that would have been me 😳 I'll order up a pair of bushes and strip it down & take a look during the week. CharlesElliott
Or the bolt could have come loose. Quite common....
Stationary M25 Traveller
I suspect it could be the Rose joints on the Watts linkage too. They are a consumable part .... seem to replace them every couple of years. Have a tame bearing supplier if you need these parts Steve.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted August 12, 2013 Member Share Posted August 12, 2013 Sounds like you may have the answer already, but you can 'phone Caterham Parts if you're not sure. (It would be great if their website was as good as their 'phone advice.) Jonathan
