O/T: BMW M1

Don't think I've ever seen one on the road before, but saw an orange one on the M40 slip road exit at J11 South (Banbury) this evening at about 6.30. According to howmanyleft.co.uk it was one of 5 registered in the UK.

In the early 90's I saw two parked together on the road, owned by the same person, but not in this country

 

It's the only BMW I really liked

Early 80's, I watched a race at Brands with a grid full of BMW M1's.

Carlos Reutermann one & I seem to remember his car was painted like a BASF cassette.

Still one of my favourite cars ever!

 

I also remember seeing Hans Stuck drive one at Brands back in the 80's (Ford C100(?) ran that day too). It started raining and the M1 was going so much quicker than everything else until a 911 spun at Clearways and the M1 couldn't miss it - end of race. BASF red.

 

Then, a few weeks later, a German registered one pulled up near where I lived and the owner was looking intently at the engine. I just watched in awe...

Travelled back from Le Mans one year in proximity to one. Great looking car but not that quick as a race car. Unless you were Hans Stuck and it was raining... he was just awesome in the wet at Le Mans back in the 80s.
