Grubbster
On my K series car I have a powerspeed 4-2-1 and over time the primaries have got a little looser where they push in to the secondaries on the silencer. It isn't much but enough to create an annoying rattle. Sealant doesn't seem to stay in place for any time at all, I'd like a quickish fix if there is one I assume I could somehow expand the primaries a tad, shrink the secondaries? Pack the gap somehow? On this system there are no clamps or springs holding it all together. Suggestions? Prefer not to have to remove the primaries from the engine if possible. Klunk
You need one of these up your primaries! Regards, Giles
Alan Bowler
a large jubilee clip around my primaries stopped them rattling. Tried other solutions (sealants, coke can shims, and even one of those expanders) but nothing worked. obviously not a good sel, but no longer rattles! Stationary M25 Traveller
Do you have the centre mount at the front of the silencer ? Thay helps carry the weight and prevents system drooping in the middle which stretches the sockets
Support Team Shaun_E Posted July 19, 2013 Support Team Share Posted July 19, 2013 Good exhaust fabricators will have a machine that reduces the diameter of a tube. Good Fabrications in Thame have one and it is amazing to watch .
Tony Whitley
An expander worked for me on very slack primaries - around the 80,000 mile mark. I was surprised they could stretch stainless steel that much.
nickh7
Just started to happen on mine , Couldn't find the rattle , it disappears when you gentle lift the collector with your foot. Also not present when once its warmed. thought I was going mad At least now I know
Willie.
If it's just a rattle, remove the secondaries and give each of the primaries a slight squeeze at the very end. If you make them slightly elliptical then they'll be tighter in the secondaries. Only a tiny bit will be needed, don't over do it.
