revilla
I've been having problems with the inner edges of my calipers knocking against my Watts link arms. I want to grind a bit of metal off from the point that catches. Before I take a grinder to them I would like to pull one apart and have a good look how thick the casting is and what is on the inside of where I'm grinding to make sure I don't wreck them! If anyone has an old one lying around please let me know. Thanks, Edited by - revilla on 29 Jun 2013 21:38:
Mark w
Can you not add a washer or two in the appropriate place to give the clearance ? Sounds a bit drastic to me
revilla
Been trying to track down a rear suspension knock for a long time. Car has been in to Nick Potter who found that the calipers were hitting the Watts link arms but couldn't give me any real explanation as to why. All spacers and shims are installed correctly. The bell cranks are the right way round. However it is very easy to see that they are hitting - if you put the car on axle stands then jack one wheel up, the caliper snags firmly on the arm. There is no clearance at all. I could add a washer or two to the 6mm spacer between the caliper and the De Dion ear but there is very little scope for movement before the frame of the caliper touches the disk. If possible I would like to shave a millimetre or two off the inner edges of the caliper body below the handbrake spring.
Wrightpayne
Have you contacted Caterham? Seems like a design fault to me. Ian
revilla
Given that it's a 2003 car I don't think they would be very interested, I reckon best to just sort it myself.
