Mucus72
Hi, My speedo gauge generally works ok, but on most journeys I have a wild bouncing needle from time to time, most noticeable at higher speeds. Most commonly at 75-80 it will bounce fom 50 back up to correct speed once or twice a second. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Rampmonkey
Yeah, take an optical average! 😬 Caterham speedo = rough idea of speed! Apologies, not very helpful! If you've a type 9 sierra box, that's where mine (seems) to get its pick off. Unplugging, bit of a contact clean up and put back together seemed to help. The problem came back after a few months but the same approach sorted it once again.... Edited by - Rampmonkey on 16 Jun 2013 11:03:
Thurtene
If your speedo runs from a sensor against a castellated ring on your right rear driveshaft, it could be the gap is too big. Needs to be really close without touching.
Gavinsmithartist
Hi Mine does the same at 40 -50. On a 2000 K series 1.6. I change the cable, cleaned all fixings and re-fitted. Nick Potter (ex Caterham Midlands) has told me that it's the speedo. Winter job. Take out and send to Smiths for refurb. They dry out.
revilla
I had exactly the same behaviour from my tacho, which is probably pretty similar inside. I had just bought the car from Caterham Mids (used) so they swapped the tacho under warranty which fixed it, so one more vote for a faulty instruments. Mucus72
Thanks all, I will have a clean and a play with the sensor first and see how I get on Cheers Marcus
