oilyhands
Sure its possible to machine the liners flush, but.. i) the pistons will protrude further up the bore ii) a standard gasket will not then work ii) you need a near complete engine stripdown to achieve it. Try selling that solution to someone who just needs a gasket replacement. Oily
stu999
Isnt the slight protrusion of the liners there to take account of the differing expansion rates of steel v ali? Or am I talking out of my 🙆🏻?
elie boone
oily, you are right when you say that you can not sell such a modification when you only need a headgasket. It only can be done with a fully stript engine.
Rob Walker
I had to have my block skimmed to achieve the desired linner protrusion when building my latest engine. The original Rover Linners were 001" below the top of the block when I stripped the engine, this would have given doubious gasket clamping.
