Violet Elizabeth
For books and stuff Amazon is the daddy. For maps and guides you could try Stanfords here

Boonie Hound
We mostly use Amazon but, depending on what you are looking for, Tesco isn't badly priced for books either.
Rachael
Alex might be able to help...he is always buying maps for work, which then mysteriously appear on our bookshelves *eek* 😬 Rach

Alex Birtwisle
Have you been to the cartography section on the top floor of Book Land in Chester (Bridge Street I think) They seem to be pretty good for things and if they don't have what you want they can get hold of it pretty quick. FH
The best map place ever used to be in Long Acre. Is it still there perchance? I love books and old maps and stuff like that, so you all know what to get me for Christmas 😬
Mrs Mav
Hi Alex thanks for that i forgot about that place, It is pretty good there, Thanks again *wink* Hi FH I think that may be a bit of a distance for me to go, but you've dropped some pretty good hints for people there 😳 Viv *smile*
Violet Elizabeth
FH - yes, it is still there, I think you are talking about Stamfords (hence the web address earlier). It is absolutely the best place for map fans....and I thought I was one of the few Whilst in Istanbul recently we picked up some maps in Arabic, no idea where they are depicting, but are excellent art. FH
😬 I remember working out sections, using a ruler and a bit of string 😳 Turning a flat piece of paper with brown squiggles all over it, into something that was recognisable, never ceased to amaze me. Kids today don't know what they're missing FH

Rachael
Don't talk to me about maps...I managed to get hold of a number of BGS maps for various locations around the UK...haven't seen Alex since ☹️ Miss Mav - don't know of anywhere, but will check Heffers and similar places in Cambridge for you! Mrs Mav
Thanks Rach, it just seems the books etc available on Amazon are not quite what my dad would want. It is more of a guide similar to berlitz etc or similar *thumbup* Viv *smile*
Violet Elizabeth
My guess is you are not after the Lonley Planet/Rough Guide end of the guide spectrum ? For a more glossy guide try either the Fodors or Insight guides to Indonesia, we have a Fodors from 1990 - but I doubt it will be much use now These are more geared to the traveller who is going to bathe at least once a day...and not get their hair braided
Mrs Mav
Thanks Noger 😬 My parents are well travelled but yes your right they are pretty cultured and not really into rough guide style holidays Cheers Viv *smile*
