suspension settings for live axle

Graham Sewell

Recommended Posts

As most of you know, my live axle car has the de-dion style double wishbone front suspension. I am also heading to Freestyle tomorrow to have their spring/damper/ARB setup fitted.

As such, it is an ideal opportunity to get the suspension geometry set up. However, should I use the original live axle settings of those for the de-dion?

For those who are interested, the factory recommendations were:

live axle de-dion

toe-in 0'0" 0'20" +/- 0'10"

camber 0'30 to 1'0" neg 1'0" +/- 0'15" neg

castor 5'0" to 7'30" 3'30" +/- 1'0"

I am guessing that as the castor angle cannot be changed on the live axle chassis (no clearance for washers), that I choose the setting based on that,

or should I go for a compromise as the camber settings overlap and the toe-in could be set to the min for the de-dion and not be too far out either way?

Or should I ignore these settings and use something else?

Graham,

I have the de-dion top wishbone on a live axle car.

I set toe in to neutral, working on the theory if it was set neutral I could adjust as necessary. I've left it netural and its fine.

I run 1.5 degs neg camber, thats with 21's 185 70's.

I have used this setup for well over a year and everything handles fine
