heptagon
I recently fitted the carbon Aeroscreen I got at the Caterham auto-jumble and now need to get the car MOT'd at the weekend. Will the MOT tester pass the car without raising this as an issue or should I put the screen back on to be safe. The Aeroscreen currently only has a right hand mirror, not sure if that's an issue as well? Advice appreciated
keybaud
My car passed with brookland aeros and no wipers and you only need 1 mirror on a normal car to meet MOT regulations.

7TOM
When I was testing if there was no screen the wipers and washers were not testable items , as with mirrors you needed a drivers and either a rear view or passenger side
keybaud
Quoting 7TOM: When I was testing if there was no screen the wipers and washers were not testable items , as with mirrors you needed a drivers and either a rear view or passenger side MOT regulations state: Obligatory mirrors are a. an exterior mirror fitted to the offside (right-hand side when seated in the drivers seat), or b, an exterior mirror fitted to the nearside fleft hand side when seated In the drivers seat), or c. an interior mirror. So, just one mirror. http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_810.htm Edited by - keybaud on 18 Apr 2013 21:10:

7TOM
I'm 99% sure you need 2 with the drivers side being compulsory and any one of the others

Support Team Shaun_E Posted April 18, 2013 Support Team Share Posted April 18, 2013 First used before 1978 is one mirror, after 1978 requires 2 one of which must be offside.

Bugger, that means I drove illegally to Scotland last weekend, despite my trying to clarify the rules. Hiding the term 'all passenger vehicles' inside a paragraph starting 'Passenger vehicles with more than 7 passenger seats' isn't the best format for providing clarity. Roger Ford
Bugger, that means I drove illegally to Scotland last weekend No it doesn't, it means you wouldn't have passed an MOT on your way to Scotland. It's possible that Construction and Use regs have a similar provision, but by no means certain.
Roger Ford
Ah, C&U do have a similar clause: here - see Item 6 Interesting that Ford Transit "motor cars" have a special date applied. Edited by - Roger Ford on 19 Apr 2013 18:30:
