philmorton
Pootling along the A303 after a fantastic Wight Blat and see oil pressure is zero ☹️ Pull off (very quickly) and check dipstick and all ok so continue. Then dial is off the scale and then randomly showing all sorts of values. Is this a dead sensor thingy? (It's a 2.3 Duratec)
Stationary M25 Traveller
Could be a dead electrical sensor or maybe watery corrosion between the connector and sender ? Go mechanical ... cheaper than a new electrical sender !
Member Jonathan Kay Posted April 14, 2013 Member Share Posted April 14, 2013 Which sort of sensor and gauge do you have? If electronic test it by taking the sensor lead to earth. Jonathan
MereCat
Mine behaved like this all last year...the problem was a dodgy sensor. Solution as prescribed was a mechanical gauge If you have not got one its peace of mind and worth fitting. Think Auto offer a kit with normal or braided hose or drop 7ERRY a line on here who should also be able to help... A search on tech talk should show this being discussed a few times and both Stationary M25 Traveller and Bio were of great help to a non technical owner like me. TomB
I had this, and after the obligatory brown trouser moment, crawl under the car to find one of the wires for the sender was loose and bouncing on and off the contact. I replaced the knurled knob with a small wing nut for easier tightening.
philmorton
Hmmm. Looks like the actual gauge is stuffed. Disconnecting the sender made no difference. Thanks for the replies
Member Jonathan Kay Posted April 15, 2013 Member Share Posted April 15, 2013 Does anyone know what the readings should be using a multimeter instead of the gauge? Jonathan
