Xflow wont start

Help ! I've just changed the fuel hoses and cleaned the inside of the distributer cap. Car (1700 with lucas electronic ignition) wont start. there is spark at the plugs, fuel to the carbs, the plugs are wet after fruitless cranking and the battery is turning it all over fine.It feels as though the timing is out (it coughed a bit through the carbs ) but I can't think what I could have disturbed. Any suggestions please ?

That's weird! After I posted, by way of a last throw of the dice, I took the plugs out (again) turned the engine over a few times then put some new plugs in. It started first try and ran perfectly, as with you cskip. I dont understand this as it had been running perfectly on the old plugs before I started fiddling.Pehaps it was flooded?

I'll get it hot then try the old plugs and see what happens.
