John_Salmon
I have now fitted an Apollo tank to a VX 2.0 wet sump via a remote filter. All is working well but i now have a 10-15 second delay in registering oil preassure if the engine has not been started for one or two days. Wil this harm the engine and is there any solution. scooby dooby doo
The gauges are VERY heavily damped so do take AGES to respond. Did it used to be quicker than this or have you only noticed since watching carefully with the new tank 🤔 It will take some time to pump some oil about and build up pressure though. John_Salmon
The preassure lag has only happened since fitting the Applo mod together with a remote filter. As standard the preassure was instant. I suspect that some oil is draining back into the sump as ther is an increase level shown on the dip stick. scooby dooby doo
It certainly does drain back - hence you measure the level with the engine running. I'm surprised/confused that you used to get pressure instantly before - maybe you have a better spec gauge than my 96 car.... V7 SLR
I've heard some people having fitted an electric valve which shuts off preventing this drain-back when the ignition is killed. Worth looking into I think... Sure there's something on this site somewhere if you do a search. Marius
Hmm, never seen an Apollo tank on a wet-sump 2.0 VX. I expect that you took much more oil into the engine than before. 10-15sec delay sounds definitly too much to be healthy. Do the hydraulic tappets rattle during these 10-15sec ??? My dry-sumped VX builds up max pressure within 2 seconds after start-up, even after standing around for 6 month. Marius
SJL
If the car is left standing the oil drains out of the apollo which takes a few seconds to fill on starting The solution is to put a one way valve in the air bleed line on the top of the apolloa tank - this stops the oil draining out of the bottom (by creating an air lock at top of tank) Do a search on Think Automotive and you will find the parts list you need - its quite easy to do and didn't cost much (£50) - and it works ! V7 SLR
I'm with Marius. My K dry sump builds up full pressure within 5 seconds of an oil change too. Allen Payne
I think all Apollo installations will do this. Chris Clarke has fitted a one way valve in the bleed pipe going to the rocker box that fixes this problem - I'm sure he'll be along soon with the details otherwise I'll try and dig out the details. John_Salmon
Thanks Allen, if you can find some details on the one way valve and post them I'll give it a try.
John_Salmon
I have now fitted a one way valve from R S about £12.00. The oil does not drain back now and i get instant preassure on start up. The Apollo works well on the VX and a good size remote filter is a further safety measure. Overall oil preassure is improved and the tappets remain quiet even after a long high speed run.[:)
Graham Perry
Sounds like another 'techtalk' success story
