alan c
Hi, Checking all my lights etc before car goes in for it's MOT next weekend. All lights working but the Hazard lights are only working intermittently. To start with nothing then if I work the switch a few times I get the drivers side working and sometimes both sides. I am useless with electrics, is this likely to be the switch or the relay or both? Alan
TJG
Alan, the switches are known to be troublesome, can stop the direction indicators working normally too. Tony
Member Jonathan Kay Posted April 1, 2013 Member Share Posted April 1, 2013 Switch. Many people have reported that full function has returned to hazard warning lights and/or turn indicators after throwing it a few times. What's the received wisdom on magic sprays? Stationary M25 Traveller
Check flasher relay pushed home ... behind fuses.
Terry Field
Alan, Ease the switch off the dashboard and disconnect the wires so that you can remove it. The switch is in two or three parts (can't remember) but it is held together by little lugs which you push in with a screwdriver. Break it down by pushing the lugs and pulling it apart, then you can clean up all the contacts before reassembling. It is more of a mechanical than electrical problem, so have a go. If you screw it up, a new switch is only a few ackers from Caterham. Good luck Terry
alan c
Thanks for the replies, will have a go at the switch and see if I can fix it but have ordered new switch and relay anyway as a fall back. Alan
Stationary M25 Traveller
Do disconnect the battery before you remove the switch ... easy to short connectors to the hole in the dash and pop a fuse.
Roger Ford
Break it down by pushing the lugs and pulling it apart Then spend 20 minutes looking for the little brass contact strips which have just pinged out and landed in the most cluttered part of your garage. Tony Whitley
You need one of these. Not to clean it, to stop the bits escaping 😶🌫️ Edited by - Tony Whitley on 2 Apr 2013 14:27:
Paul Deslandes
squirt some switch cleaner or isopropyl alcohol into it without removing it from the panel, then work it a few times. Usual does the trick although taking it apart sometimes does a better and more permanent job.
alan c
Thanks for all the tips, currently abroad (again!). Will have a play on Friday evening and see if I can fix it. If all else fails have new switch and flasher relay, at least I hope that is what's in the small parcel that I am told has arrived at home.
