Build query, HT leads and other things

Well done Caterham/Rover! My 1.6 K series engine was supplied without the HT leads from the coils to the plugs-this explains a certain reluctance to start! Caterham said 'Oh we get a few like that'.

 

All connected and it started fine but lots of popping at idle-not at all sure this is as it should be. Made me wonder if I had connected the HT leads correctly-should the coils be attached to the plugs below and immediately adjacent? The cables are a bit long for this but I cannot see any logic in connecting 1 and 4 and 2 and 3 together which is the alternative routing. Not sure if it would make a difference anyway.

 

Should I relax about the popping at idle? Bit worried it may harm the catalyst. Any other suggestions or is it normal?
