Martin7H
Hi What is the correct antifreeze for a VX C20XE HPC. I am also going to replace the hoses for silicone ones. Thanks Martin
combine
I put normal car anti freeze in , seems to work fine as long as the water/anti frreze mix is strong enough .
Martin7H
What do you mean by normal antifreeze, as there are quite a few variants. What brand do you use?
keybaud
I spent ages trying to work out which one and eventually I chose the Halfords own brand red stuff for my Vx, as it's suitable for alloy heads, etc. Edited by - keybaud on 17 Mar 2013 20:35:
Rob Walker
following problems with my ali rad I was advised by Radtec not to use the latest longlife anifreeze the stuff with OAT in ( organic acid technolgy) They claim it corrodes the ali. The engine block and rad were black inside after using this stuff and where some coolant had leaked out it has corroded the ali body side skin on my car. Jonathan Kay
Ethylene glycol Propylene glycol A large number of additives for a large number of purposes: corrosion inhibition, increased wetting, colour, taste... Jonathan
combine
So are some not suited to car engines or do they all do the same thing ?
Jonathan Kay
Wikipedia article on antifreeze I'm aware of two current questions for 7s: 1 The best coolant for K series engines. This is mostly about preventing corrosion to the aluminium. (I follow the factory instructions.) 2 Whether wetting agents improve cooling. (I follow the factory instructions.) MereCat
Hi Jonathan Just picking up on your response. What are the instructions / guidelines for a K series? Thanks Paul
Jonathan Kay
Here's what I'd put in a K series:Quoting Jonathan Kay: I find the labelling on coolant very confusing. Caterham have Comma XStream XSM5L for £17.10 + p&p Amazon have XSM5L for £16.98 inc p&p Halfords have Comma XStream G30 (which is probably XSM5L) for £24.99 ... all 5L premixed. I'd get a big bottle from either Caterham or Amazon. Usual safety warning: this stuff is very poisonous. Keep it away from children.Discussed here and here. My own answer to the questions I posed are "Factory instructions" and "Possibly, but not needed in addition to what's in the recommended commercial products". LesG
I use the red stuff with no water in it, matches my car's colour scheme! 😬
