Smiffy69
What's the best way to repair stone chips in paintwork? I have a 2 part paint kit ( colour & laquer) but I'm never sure the best way of using these to get a good finish. Do you apply paint and then laquer over the top, wet and dry till nice and smooth then polish until shiney or is there a better way of doing it ? Rampmonkey
Honestly? Dull the chip edges with a bit of wet and dry (ideally the little tool that comes with any two part chip kit). Drop some paint in there and allow to dry. Apply coats as required to get a good layering of paint. I personally wet and dry to smooth finish then apply the laquer. Finish with mega fine wet and dry (at least 2100 grade) Rubbing compound then Tcut! Simples!

glasgow
Sorry, guys excuse my ignorance... A) what you mean by wet and dry? B) when you drop some paint in the chip area, what would you do with any paint that goes over to adjacent paintwork - just wipe it with cloth (plain or some additive onto it), would this do any damage to the adjacent area Ahmed
Member Jonathan Kay Posted June 21, 2013 Member Share Posted June 21, 2013 "Wet and dry" is fine abrasive "sandpaper" that can be used with water removing the debris. (It probably doesn't contain sand or paper but that's not important right now.) Jonathan
glasgow
so is this fine abrasive wet paper safe to be used on the adjacent bodywork (as it is very difficult just to use this paper on the area of the chip without touching the bodywork?
Dave B
Both MER and 3M do a very nice scratch/stone chip repair kit. They both come with everything you need apart from the paint. Dave B
Grandmaster Flatcap
hmmm - do you know of a supplier? My Google skills seem to have let me down. "3m chip repair kit" just fetches pages of how to videos. Edited by - Nigel Mercer on 22 Jun 2013 10:29:
