Simon Owen
I realise the POBC cannot predict the weather 😬 ..... But I have just acquired a full set of winter tyres and alloys for less than a 1/3rd of the £1,500 list price (couldn't resist 😳). The tyres are Pirelli Sottozero Series II, no idea if they are any good ?? Question, on balance are they worth fitting to the family barge at this time of year or would you put em in storage 'till next winter. What do you think chaps 🤔 🤔 🤔 Edited by - Simon Owen on 20 Feb 2013 20:20:
Member Jonathan Kay Posted February 20, 2013 Member Share Posted February 20, 2013 In Cheshire? 30 day outlook is cold. Put them on now. Jonathan
Mark Durrant
The compound of the winter tyre will work better than your summer tyres in the wet and when temperatures are below 10C, so in Manchester use them all year round 😬 So yes fit them and change in the spring
LesG
We have winter tyres on the Audi and the Polo right now, defo get them on your car until the temperature is consistently above 7 deg C.
Graham Perry
Always keep my winters on until first week of April, then I look at the two week forecast and if nothing cold is predicted then put the summers back on. Some parts of the country have snow forecast for the end of this week.
Simon Owen
Confused These are the tyres here They are described as asymmetrical and have a tread pattern that looks directional yet there is no directional arrows on the tyre ? This seems a bit odd 🤔 Has anybody got them fitted, I'll try ringing the dealer tomorrow to check.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted February 20, 2013 Member Share Posted February 20, 2013 Are they asymmetric but don't have a recommended direction of rotation? If so they should only have a marking on the sidewall that says something like "inside" and "outside". Jonathan
Simon Owen
Yeah could be, the dealer has got the 'inner' 'outer' bit correct. They are just not paired so when presented to the car the tread pattern is reversed one side to the other.
Simon Owen
Jonathan, I rang Pirelli technical direct - very helpful actually !! Basically they are not directional in any way so the dealer had fitted correctly in the first place. It still looks a bit odd but hey ho if that's what the manufacturer says I'll stop worrying about it 😬 Cheers, Simon ..
Member Jonathan Kay Posted February 21, 2013 Member Share Posted February 21, 2013 How long will it be before the asymmetry stops catching your eye? :-) Jonathan
