OliW
Hi folks, Trying to bleed the front uprated brakes with an easibleed. Rears were a piece of cake but the hose for the bleed nipple isn't big enough at 5.4 mm. What do other users do to bleed these? Buy a wider diameter tube? Cheers, Oli
Stationary M25 Traveller
You do have the black rubber sleeve on the end of the clear PVC bleed tube don't you ? It s pretty stretchy.
mav
Warm the tube in boiling water in this weather to make it softer. Make sure you dry the end before use. They do fit, as I used the thick clear tube on my ap calipers.
OliW
Cheers guys. No rubber sleeve, but a bit of warmth under the heat gun sorted it out. Still got a spongy brake pedal but I think that's because I let some air in when faffing about with the ill fitting hose earlier. I'll start from scratch in daylight. Thanks, Oli
catastrada
Are your rear brakes standard or uprated ?
OliW
They're standard on the back.
catastrada
In that case nothing sppecial and esaybleed should help you bleeding your brakes properly. (With rear uprated brakes the calipers are horizontally fitted on the s3 although they were designed to be vertically fitted. As a result the position of the bleed nipples does not help to bleed properly. The calipers need to be removed and placed vertically for effective bleeding. If you don´t do that, you can bleed 5 times and continue to have a spongy brake pedal).
OliW
Ah ha. Thanks C. Everyday is a school day; my calipers are fitted horizontally. Must be uprated on that basis! Edited by - OliW on 9 Feb 2013 22:45:
Stationary M25 Traveller
Standard rear brakes are horizontal too ! The calipers do need tapping to help release the air bubbles. If the bleed nipples aren't at the highest point, you can unbolt the calipers and tilt them, just watch the copper hoses and don't pop the pistons out !!! OliW
I came to that conclusion after looking at the manual last night. Definitely standard on the rear as I thought initially.
catastrada
Personnaly I replaced the copper hoses with aero hoses. To bleed I remove the uprated calipers and place a piece of wood between the pistons.
Paul Deslandes
Note that the updated fronts each have two bleed nipples. A point often missed.
