cdg
Posting for a friend. Formula 2 BDG. Just had rebuild costing £22000 (!) by George Wadsworth, with new Sportscar cams by Richardsons. Best of everything. Alloy block, dry-sump, slide throttle injection etc.etc. 280+bhp. Beautiful! For sale at fraction of build cost. £14000 but would possibly haggle. Please contact me in first instance. Chris.

tiddy1
Surley if it has an alloy block then it is not really a BDG, cosworth always refused to build them with anything other that a cast iron block, Is that the hart block? or some other? just nit picking
Peter T
Spoke to the seller today, this is what spec it is- alloy block (Quaife 90mm) Farndon crank, Carrilo rods, L1 cams, with Lucas mechanical 6mm injection, just built dyno time only 263bhp@7500rpm. A very nice engine, and certainly worth the money! C7 PWT X-Flow all Steel
Peter T
Tiddy, only the very early versions used a cast iron block, later cars used an alloy block. C7 PWT X-Flow all Steel
stevefoster
Yep. Tongue is hanging out. edmandsd
Chris - £22k for a rebuild is concerning considering a new one is only 😳 £27k + Vat from Richardsons - What the hell happened to require such an expensive rebuild ? CHRIS CLARK
Dave. That is 'only' (bl%dy hell what a lot of dosh) 31,725 ukp for the engine new then. Hell; 14,000 ukp (negotiable) is really 'cheap' (and about 3.5 grand more than I paid for my whole car!!!!!!!) Can't say I wouldn't like it though Clamshell Club Founder Member. cdg
Dave, Don't quote me but I believe it's virtually all brand new, possibly with the exception of the head casting. My good friend Michael at Tollbar Racing has the full spec, if anyone is interested. 01629 735176. And yes it is a lot of money; can't argue with that, but everything's relative and compared to the price of a "new" F2 spec BDG, it's relatively inexpensive. Chris. EFA
£14K buys a Swindon VX of genuine 280bhp. How the engine for sale here can be considered anything but a waste of money is beyond me. cdg
Do you think anyone looking for a BDG gives a sh*t what you think? Edited by - cdg on 15 Nov 2002 23:43:
TonyR
14K would also get you a decent K Series. A VX or K Series or a BDG. I would go for the BDG anytime. edmandsd
So that's a 280 bhp engine like yours then is it Arnie 😳 As I understood it a 'proper' all singing and dancing Swindon 2lt is around £27k complete. Lets not forget how fast a Caterham will really go with a 'genuine' 280 bhp before we all start making out how easy it is to achieve. Maybe I'm a bit bias but there were only ever 3 'proper' 4 cylinder 2 litre race engines in my opinion - The BD, Hart and BMW F2 engine...... from 3rd to 1st place. I accept that as far as a converted road engine go the vx in hard to beat though - especially if it's got an alloy block. Home of BDR700

Swiss_Tony
Well I know which I would prefer Dave The only problem with the ali block vx engine is more than a few reliability issues. edmandsd
'Dave, Like most of your theories, the above is also flawed.' Sounds a bit rich coming from someone who thinks you can gain an extra 7mph along Curborough's straight by just alloy panelling the underside of a 7 😳 Home of BDR700
