StuB
My car is in various pieces in the garage. I want to clean some of the hard to reach areas while I've got access, such as the front scuttle where the windscreen sits and under the rear wings. Has anyone any products they can recommend? The garage is freezing with nowhere for water to drain so I want to try and avoid going in there with a bucket of soapy water. I've used diluted Marine Clean from Frosts to clean all the dirt off from underneath but don't know if its safe to use on paintwork, emailed their customer services earlier in the week but have yet to receive a reply. Any thoughts appreciated. Stu
Rob Walker
5 L tin of brake cleaner ( carbon tetrochoride ) in a manual garden spray. Will not damage paint and cleans off oil grim a treat, plus it dries at low temps. Rob

tbird
Not convinced about carbon Tet in a garden spray in an enclosed space, now I am not one to worry about many H & S rules but, from Wiki, just for simplicity, Exposure to high concentrations of carbon tetrachloride (including vapor) can affect the central nervous system, degenerate the liver[10] and kidneys[12] and may result (after prolonged exposure) in coma and even death.[13] Chronic exposure to carbon tetrachloride can cause liver[14][15] and kidney damage and could result in cancer.[16] More information can be found in Material safety data sheets.[17] maybe this article on waterless car wash products will help Tim Edited by - tbird on 19 Jan 2013 21:26:

Wrightpayne
I use some car shampoo mixed with water in a spray bottle. Spray on wipe off with kitchen roll - wipe once and bin it to avoid scratching paint. Ian

Molecular--Bob
I have used this here, worked very well on the inner arch area when left to soak in for half an hour or so before cleaning off. Paint seems to have survived.
