Acousta-Fil Exhaust Packing Bulk Buy

SV Gary

Recommended Posts

I am just "testing the water" at the moment as I have been interested in re-packing the Powerspeed Exhaust on my R400 since reading these threads here and here but the price at £50 + del has always put me off. The feedback seems very encouraging with respect to noise reduction and lifetime - I have to re-pack my exhaust with E glass each season.

So, I have gone the UK source of the Acousta-Fil material and managed to agree a £12/m2 incl del to me such that the cost for my exhaust (1.8m2) would now be circa £22 del. The only problem is there is a min 25m2 purchase of any width of material, hence the thoughts about a bulk buy.

My 180mm dia x 600mm exhaust requires a 3m length of 600mm wide (1.8m2) Acousta -fil so I am looking for a min of approx 20 other caterham owners who would like to buy a length of 600mm wide material. To calculate the amount of material you need you can use this website.

For those with a smaller length exhaust a 600mm wide sheet could be cut down to fit but we will need to order at 600mm wide.

Let me know if this is of any interest - If I get enough interest I will set it up.

Gary

I'd be interested as well but having done this before I seem to remember I needed two different widths as they don't do it in a 1m wide version. I'll see if I can find what I ordered last time.

A quick calculation says I'll need 3m at 1m wide which will probably be 3m of 600m and 3m of 400m.

Cheers

Rob

Just an update from the original post.

I have probably done around 30 track days since the original post in 2011 all between 5k and 8.5k rpm which would equate to what must be 8500 miles.

The last reading was 94db static. I always ask these days as I was expecting it to have 'gone off' after such a long time but no. I really think its fantastic but I wouldnt invest in the company with such low repeat orders!!! *biggrin*

Im just about to order some heat shielding from them for the transmission tunnel.

Hi Ray

I have put you down for 2.0m x 0.6m if that is ok. The guys from Culimeta-Saveguard Ltd, the UK suppliers, have given me a copy of there fill calc sheet which always comes out a little more that the calc program from Thermal Velocity, so I have rounded your 1.9m up.

Martyn

Your requirement for 2.0m x 0.6m is noted

All

From your measurements so far for a 600mm long silencer it's:

2.0m x 0.6m for a 6" can

3.0m x 0.6m for a 7" can

Those that have yet to confirm their requirements can they please do so such that I can ge the Bulk buy underway.

Last call for anyone else who wants to join in.

Im after this if it gets my car through a year or two of TDs. Will get an order in tomorrow.

I will have to wait until tomorrow to measure the size of my exhaust.

Assuming its 7" (17.5cm) external diameter and 65cm long- the calculator says I need 700mm width stuff and 2.9m? Is this an option? Or is the 600mm everyone is getting sufficient?
