TAM340R
Hi sorry for my bad English. I would need your help. I bought some years ago RIF s seven, Yes I think I was realy lucky! I m facing a big big understeer on track. I think that the cy who produced the Freestyle pushrods suspension is not anymore in business. Where would it be possible to find some literature about the settings for the freestyle? Or where would it be possible to contact the guys who produced it? Thanks in advance
Stationary M25 Traveller
Yes unfortunately Freestyle suffered a fire at their premises and are no longer trading. Gary May is now 'off the radar' and out of this line of business ☹️ Hopefully someone will be able to help you. Edit .... where are you based ? Stationary M25 Traveller
I am hopeful that someone in the UK will be able to give you some advice. Is this the yellow car .. . Remember it well from several trips with Richard.
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted January 3, 2013 Area Representative Share Posted January 3, 2013 Are the wishbones standard Caterham or Freestyle supa wide? If standard Caterham the suspension should be no more difficult to set up than any other Caterham. The inboard suspension should make ride height and damping a little bit easier to adjust. As a "general" rule understeer will be as a result of the front suspension being too stiff compared to the rear. Do you have anti roll bars? If so, suggest softening the front and/or stiffening the rear. There are a number of good books on setting up suspension, but I'm sure there must be some motorsport specialists in Belgium who can undertake the work for you. Adjusting the corner weights (flat flooring) would be a good start along with checking the castor and camber. Good luck.
Tony Whitley
I did get a response from Gary at freestylemotorsport@hotmail.com - but that was two years ago. Mine is the prototype Freestyle car and I haven't noticed any tendency to understeer It doesn't have a front ARB but beyond that I can't tell you much about the suspension set up. It's ultra wide track, with Freestyle front wishbones and an SV rear axle. As Paul says, a mechanic with a good knowledge of setting up race cars should have no problem with it.
