Bob L
FOC but requires collection from Bexleyheath if anyone wants it: 1999 dedion tube with 2 lower shock bolts sheared off flush with the tube lower mounting positions. I have just replaced my dedion tube as a precaution, one of the shock bolts had snapped flush with the tube (lower mounting position used). In truth I didn’t want to risk the down time of removal and drilling it out especially as this is now 13 years old and upon disassembly, I thought I might find other issues. And there was, the other shock bolt snapped upon removal Long story short, tube was changed for the more up to date stronger model but the old tube does appear to look OK apart from the 2 sheared off bolts. These were originally torqued up correctly and regularly checked so could the bolt quality have been suspect? Please be aware these tubes were one of the models that appears to have a high failure rate. As I say, it looks OK around the welds but I’m a basic spanner guy and not a metallurgist. I would personally recommend a new tube to anyone who is contemplating a change but if anyone is handy with a drill and wants to beef up the lower mounting positions it could save a few pounds to someone if they really know what they are doing….I just wanted to offer this out before I dump it.
