Partial reskin

There are some small bubbles of corrosion appearing through the side skins below the front bulkhead on my 1991 car, so I think I need to plan for a reskin. However, due to an unfortunate incident with a lamp post I had the rear of the car reskinned by Arch about 5 years ago so that can presumably stay in place.

 

Therefore I'm wondering if I can avoid fully stripping down the car to get the front side panels replaced, and may be able to get away with just removing the wings and front suspension/lights, saving a lot of work.

 

Has anyone had any experience of such a partial reskin? Am I perhaps kidding myself that there won't be significant corrosion on the chassis tubes which will require a complete strip down before it can be properly fixed?

Joint for the side skins to rear skin is behind the rear wheel arch, near to hood stick mounting points.

 

May be possible to join further forward. Suggest speaking to Bruce at arch.

Had this conversation with Bruce and Phil at Arch yesterday, and the join can be where ever you want forward from the point in Mav's post.

I reskinned the whole car previously and the chassis corrosion was mild, but the car (1994) has never been used in winter salt.

There are 5 skins to a chassis. There are two small triangular panels that are attached to the boot panel just above the rear wing where Mav says that attach to the long sideskins by the corner of the cockpit right in front of the wing protectors. I'm sure I've seen racers having "half side skins" fitted when they have long fronts which go from the pedal boxes forward.

Yes, a lot of racers will have the join behind where the number square goes if being reskinned with a long front.
