simonpa
I have too many bodies, so this one has to go. It's a Canon EOS 5d full-frame semi-pro dSLR. It's recently had a replacement mirror assembly (known issue and replaced by Canon), along with a new sensor and full clean. I estimate the shutter count as around 20k - these are normally good for 100k+ Some sample pics up here This is a fantastic full-frame camera, but with a 5dmk2 and a 7d, I really can't justify keeping it as a backup unit. I may sell the 7d as well, as I've not used it since getting the 5d2.. The 5d comes with: o body cap o charger, original battery (last for ever) and a couple of spares o original box and all manuals/software Looking for £500, plus P&P. simonpa
I think even junk (dropped in the sea) mk2 versions go for more than £500.. Granted, you can possibly get a working 5d mk1 for £450, but not one in this condition with a new sensor, refurbished mirror box and a service (all by Canon in Elstree). michaeljclark
Drat, I was soooooo tempted, but as all my exisiting lenses are EF-S I suspect SWMBO may have "comments" if I have to get all new kit.... Good luck with the sale! Mike
simonpa
That's the only bad thing about the full-frame cameras. Swapping all your lenses would be a pain :(
keybaud
I've been contemplating a Canon digital SLR for a while, but never got round to actually getting one. A couple of numpty questions from me: What's the difference between the Mk1 and the Mk2? For someone who still has a Canon EOS 650 from 1984, what are the benefits of the 5D over any of the newer cameras at a similar price to yours? Will my Canon lenses for the EOS 650 fit the 5D, as they will be full frame? Edited by - keybaud on 24 Sep 2012 22:46:
simonpa
Hi there, the main difference is about a grand :( Other than that the mk2 has almost twice the number of quoted pixel (but that doesn't mean it physically has that many more sensors). It can also do video, which the mk1 doesn't. Finally, it has about a hundred menu options, 99% of which you or I will never use.. Advantages are mainly: o semi-pro - will last forever o full-frame - less compromise on the sensor and picture quality o all manual options are fully available - I never use auto - only AV/TV o it won't drop in value significantly Have a look at the reviews on the 5d from when it came out or BM me with any questions. Your lenses will all fit OK (any EF (but not EF-S) lens wll fit, but earlier EOS lenses may sometimes throw an error. If you are anywhere near Fleet (or Reading) you are welcome to have a play. myothercarsa2cv
Quoting simonpa: hahaha... Just wanted to check! If it was a MkII I'd be driving up now to get it... And bite your hand off when I get there! Still tempting though... Very tempting...
Stig McNasty
Simon - If you do decide to part with the 7d could you let me know? I need a backup for my 5d2. If you're thinking about this 5D, another advantage of its full frame sensor is that you get the proper 35mm equivalent wide angle, so a 15mm lens is 15mm not the 24mm you'd get with most APS-C sensor DSLRs. Cheers.

simonpa
I've just found the receipts from the service, sensor and mirror replacement earlier this summer - came to over £500 (under warranty), but shows nothing will be needed to be done for the forseeable :) Cheers - Simon PS - Stig, did you get my BM?
