keybaud
Are there any major differences between the bent gear lever from Caterham and the straight gear level from Demon Tweaks? Bent Straight I'm erring on the straight one, so that my arm is a little bit further forward, which will give the passenger a bit more freedom. Area Representative Paul Richards Posted September 18, 2012 Area Representative Share Posted September 18, 2012 I suspect the gear levers are identical. The DT one looks straight just because of the angle the picture is taken from. Worth checking first.
keybaud
The description of the DT one states that it has a straight shaft, hence my original question.
sjmmarsh
The text on the DT website says the lever is straight, allowing for quicker shifts. I've no idea which is better though. It will also move the position of the knob, which may help or hinder, depending on where your hand falls. Steve
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted September 18, 2012 Area Representative Share Posted September 18, 2012 I stand corrected. Must learn to read properly.
anthony1956
whether you can reach it might be an issue... if mine was straight I probably could not, at least not comfortably.
BBL
The DT one doesn't appear to be a picture, but more a cartoon-ish representation. Look at those threads! I call marketing hooey. I fail to see how this will produce quicker shifts just because it does not have the slight bend the CC one has. If it was shorter, maybe; but not because of the straightness. 😔
Eugene
The quick shift is because the pivot point is located in a different place, not due to the straight shaft... I have a quick shift on Eugene (not this one). Works very well 😬
Mankee
I don't think Quaife manufacture a straight lever quick shift do they? Same as Anthony, with the standard cranked Sierra-style gear lever, I'm close to clonking my hand on the dash if I select third in a hurry. Buying from Quaife is marginally cheaper at £81+VAT, but our friends at Redline might be able to beat that anyway.
Harry Flatters
WRT quick shifts, the received wisdom (from Phil at R&R, who knows a thing or two about gearboxes) is that these devices can put undue strain on the selector forks, especially on 6sp boxes. I had a Quaife QS and ended up replacing forks on my 6 speeder. Have now reverted to standard shift .
