Build query-clutch jammed open?

Another weekend another snag.

 

Bellhousing fitted to engine block but I had expected the clutch release bearing to be pushed back with some spring pressure against the clutch, instead the clutch release fork and bearing just flop back and forth.

 

Does this mean the clutch is jammed open? if so how do I release it/

Providing you have fitted the fork on the correct way, they do flop about front to rear until the cable is fitted .it is the cable that takes up th play.

Agreed with Fred above, I worried about the same thing but it is fine once the cable is fitted.

 

Incidently, not sure you can fit the bellhousing with the fork the wrong way as the angle stops it fitting up.

Hope you remembered to fit the release bearing???? If you did then all should be OK as I agree with Paulyb its not possible to fit the clutch arm the wrong way round.

Thanks folks. there was a problem aligning the drive shaft-the clutch disc had been fitted off centre and once sorted I can see that the release arm only moves about half of the slot before hitting the clutch spring, this looks about right.

Obsure but related question time- can anybody recall where their clutch actuator fork was located, i.e. was it a loose item or with the bellhousing.

 

Went to mate engine and box this weekend and cannot find the aforementioned anywhere. I have a release bearing (loose) but no fork or bellhousing gaitor. Caterham could never have forgotten to send it surely? (Found this out half-an-hour after Caterham closed on Saturday )

mine was in the large box along with all the steering bits shaft. track rod ends. ect if you have a dry sump you don't get a boot to cover the fork it is not needed.
