MOT Exhaust Exemption

Irish

Recommended Posts

I had a bit of issues last year trying to prove my 1995 crossflow was exempt from the MOT emmissions.

Does anyone know what evidence is required (other than that the car is the original engine?).

Thanks. As you would expect my MOT is tomorrow, tax is up on Friday, insurance is due next week.......it never stops when you are trying to run four cars!

Can you get it to Barnet?

Caterham sympathetic/understanding MOT station there. G & M Read, Barnet Road. They understand the regulations (in my experience).

BTW: Why not copy the relevant part of 7faq?

a 1995 kit build caterham crossflow will be exempt, (see the note bottom right of the page Page 164 section 7.3 of the PDF referenced above. )

or if on a Q plate page 159 section 7.3 is exempt.

but

a 1995 factory built crossflow may not be exempt, have a look at the 7faq. one thing worth checking is the age of the engine as the MOT is based on the older.

check the 7faq regarding VIN numbers to identify kit built.

Of course you can always try the tack that it is a Kit Car and was used before 1998.
