evotell
Does anybody have any comments regarding having alloy wheels Power Coated? I have heard that the heat can damage the integrity of the rim.
Stationary M25 Traveller
It is quite a gentle heat to bake electrostatically applied powder. You wouldn't want to use the process where you heat the item in a hot oven then dip it in a bath of aerated powder - that is for small items that heat through quickly and evenly. A wheel is too big for this.
charlie_pank
Does that make them go faster?
EFA
Powder coating is applied at 180deg C, which should not have any adverse effect on aluminium wheels. I have loads done, no issues. Magnesium may be different, if you have those.
Ian B
You can get them done at City Powdercoating for a very reasonable price, and they have some good feedback on here ( Arnie )
Bricol
~I think the postage may outweight the wheel-deal saving 😬 Bri
evotell
Do the Caterham Motorsport wheels come powder coated or painted?
Mike C.
What adds more weight to the wheel - painting, powder coating, or no difference?
Ian B
Doubt it makes much difference (if you're that worried just get them sstripped and lacquered!). My Caterham powdercoated 10-spokes got lighter as they got older as the coating came off 😬
